Litomysl Wet set Requirements, Screenshot
To be able to load the Litomysl sample set to the organ, you
have to have powerfull PC running Windows 2000 or XP Professional, with
Hauptwerk installed.
- Processor
the Pentium or AMD based processor with more than 2.6 GHz
frequency (the best results are obtained if > 3 GHz). The sample set
will load also with lower frequency processor, however, you may experience
occasional overload.
- RAM
3 GB of RAM (if you have less memory, you may load a subset, of course -
see below). Well, it may seem too much of memory consuption involved, but
think: first, you get an exceptionally high quality sample set with long and
perfect loops and with natural reverberation and second, it is so cheap
compared to other sample set of comparable size that you may use the spared
money to buy some more RAM modules...
- Screen
the ODFs are designed so that your screen (a monitor or a LCD panel) has
to be set to at least 1280x1024 pixels.
- Sound Card
decent soundcard (this seems to be less crucial since human ear is not
really a digitally perfect organ, you do not need to spend too much money on
that since the soundcards sold today have usually decent chipsets and at least
16bit D/A converters)
Due to the extreme dynamic possibilities of this sample set, it is suggested
to use the Hauptwerk output level of 10-13% only - to be set in the Settings
pane of your Hauptwerk.
- Amplifier, speakers, headphones
hi-fi quality amplifier or mixer and hi-fi or professional quality
headphones or speakers (studio monitors). This is much more important than the
soundcard since it is this equipment which makes the sound sounding to your
ear. I have myself made very good experience using headphones: AKG K-501, AKG
K-240, Sennheiser HD-280.
- It is quite meaningless to speak about speakers since the audition quality
lies in the acoustic qualities of your listening room above all! The
speakers themselves may have very good quality, but put into different rooms
and positioned in different ways their sound may change very, very much. Well,
you have to "tune" your listening ambient with your speakers to achieve very
good results. Be prepared to experiment very much at this point. Remember, the
best suiting equipment need not to be the most expensive! I experimented with
relatively cheap M-Audio LX 4 (in 5.1 set) with very pleasing results! What is
essential is the clear "crystalline" presentation of high frequencies not
the bass parts. But do not
try to use cheap computer speakers with a single 1' speaker each. This will
not give satisfactory results in any occasion.
- MIDI capable keyboard or midi software
If you want to play live, you will have to have a midi capable organ
console. Either you have one already, or you may want to "midify" some old
consoles what is very possible (e.g.
see this
page) but to start with something, you may use even cheap electronic
keyboards (such as Casio CTK-601 just to give an example for many) which have
the MIDI-OUT connector. Alternatively, you might want to feed your Hauptwerk
with midi files directly from your computer, so that the PC performs the piece
for you "by itself". Many demo mp3s on this www site were made using that
method.
