Jiri Zurek

       

  • born 1974, at Olomouc, Czech Republic, Europe

  • 1980-1992 studied piano with Mrs. Herta Hanakova, later adding organ with a private teacher, also attending the lessons on organ building at the Olomouc organ company, being involved in restaurations of various organs also practically.

  • 1990-1992 a student of the United World College of the Adriatic, Duino, Italy

  • 1992: graduated at UWCAD, International Baccalaureate Diploma obtained.

  • 1992-1993: theological convict at Litomerice, Czech republic, (a name of an educational institution, not a "prison", in fact :-) at that time being the cathedral co-organist of Litomerice

  • 1993-1998: Charles University, Prague, Theological Faculty student. at that time being the seminary organist and the "praefectus chori" the leader and director of the seminarian choir, responsible for the music in the Prague seminary. During the two visits of the pope John Paul II. to the country I was co-responsible for the music in papal Prague ceremonies.

 
 
  • 1995-1998: Charles University, Prague, Philosophical Faculty student of musicology, specialized in early music and gregorian chant.

  • 1998: a diploma of "Magister" (master) degree obtained from the Charles University

  • 2006: obtained the ThLic. post-gradual degree in systematic Theology at Palackiana University in Olomouc

  • 2008: obtained the ThD. post-gradual degree in systematic Theology at Palackiana University in Olomouc.

  • 1998-present: researcher at the Institute for Classical Studies (later Philosophical Institute) of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech republic. Responsible for projects: "Documentation of the Cultural Heritage of the Czech Lands up to 1800", "Knihopis Digital" and the project "Liturgical Manuscripts of the Utraquist Provenance".
    During this period I started experimenting with sampling organ sound and with digital organ consoles. After Hauptwerk appeared, I was one of the first sample set producers, the first sample set appeared in 2003 as the Sonus Paradisi project, later adding Hauptwerk.cz project.
